Carbon fibers which have high thermal conductivity, readily form a network in a matrix, and are suitable for use in a radiating member; and a molded object containing the fibers. The pitch-derived carbon fibers are characterized by being produced from mesophase pitch as a raw material and having an average fiber diameter (AD) of 5-20 µm, a coefficient of fiber diameter variation in percentage based on the average fiber diameter (AD), CV<SUP>AD</SUP> value, of 5-15, a number-average fiber length (NAL) of 25-500 µm, a volume-average fiber length (VAL) of 55-750 µm, and a value obtained by dividing the volume-average fiber length (VAL) by the number-average fiber length (NAL) of 1.02-1.50. Also provided is a process for producing the fibers. |
