For measuring the fluid pressure of liquids such as tar and oil extracts maintained at elevated temperatures to stop them congealing or crystallizing, a buffer liquid such as glycerine, clearer than and immiscible with the test liquid, is held in a vessel 23 communicating via a lower opening 25 with a pressure gauge (which may be remote) and at its upper end with a cavity in a bored metal plate 11 which communicates and is in close proximity with the vessel 13 containing the test liquid. The good conductivity of the metal plate ensures that the portion of test liquid directly entering into the test is at the same temperature as the body of liquid. The rate of fluid flow may be measured using two such apparatus and measuring the differential pressure. A Venturi tube may be inserted between. |
