[Also in Division F4] A compressor for a closed cycle cooling system (see Division F4) comprises two low pressure cylinders LPS1 and LPS2 mounted on one side of a crank-case and an intermediate pressure cylinder IPS and a high pressure cylinder HPS mounted on the opposite side of the crank-case. The pistons 84 and 85 of cylinders LPS2 and IPS are secured to opposite sides of a scotch yoke 82 and the pistons 86 and 87 of cylinders LPS1 and HPS are secured to opposite sides of a scotch yoke 83, the yokes 82 and 83 being driven by separate throws of a crank-shaft 30. The compressor is mounted in a hermetically sealed case and the outputs of cylinders LPS1 and LPS2 are combined and passed to cylinder IPS through a first cooling coil, while cylinder IPS is connected to cylinder HPS via a second cooling coil, the cooling coils being located on the exterior of the case (Fig. 3, not shown). |
