Heading F4H In a low temperature refrigerator a compressor 1 passes helium to a liquefier 2 from which liquid passes through a valve 4 to a consumer 6 in which it vaporizes, vapour being drawn off by a vacuum pump 9 through a valve 8 and the valves 4 and 8 are automatically controlled in response to consumer temperature and maintain that temperature constant. The liquefier 2 includes counterflow heat exchangers 21, 22, 23 and a Joule-Thomson valve 24 and the pressure in the liquefier is maintained at about 0-2 atmospheres above atmospheric. At least part of the line 3 connecting the liquefier and the consumer is formed as a throttling section 5. A gas accumulator 10 may be included in the circuit according to the setting of valves 11 and 12 and the accumulator communicates with gas supply cylinders through a valve 13. |
