Gaseous mixtures consisting of propylene air and steam yield acrolein in the presence of catalysts including antimony tetroxide, stannic oxide and ethyl silicate.ALSO:The catalytic composition and process of the parent Specification, which relate to antimony tetroxide in combination or admixture with stannic oxide and methods of manufacturing same, are modified by the inclusion of a minor proportion of ethyl silicate. The ethyl silicate may be included at any stage in the preparation of the composition. Thereafter the composition may be subjected to a heat treatment within the range 550-1100 DEG C.
