1,148,430. Cellulosic/polyester varnish composition. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 20 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 13481/68. Headings C3F and C3P. A varnish based on an ethylene-dicarboxylic acid polyester and having a content of an allyl ether compound contains 9-100%, based on the polyester and allyl ether of (a) a cellulose ester in which at least 50% of the available OH groups are esterified with an aliphatic carboxylic acid of at least 3 C atoms or (b) a cellulose ester with at least 40% of the available OH groups esterified as in (a) and a further 10% of these OH groups esterified with acetic acid, there being present at least 0À2 g. mole of ethylene-dicarboxylic acid radicals and at least 0À1 g. mole of allyl ether radicals per 100 g. of polyester + allyl ether + cellulose ester. Many polyesters and allyl ethers are listed (the ether may be chemically or physically combined with the polyester); in the examples the polyester is based on maleic acid anhydride, ethylene glycol, trimethylol-propane-diallyl ether optionally with propane-1,2-diol and phthalic acid anhydride. Many solvents are listed; styrene, toluene, ethyl acetate and isopropanol are exemplified. Cellulose propate, butyrate and acetobutyrate (of 17-21% Ac; 45-50% Bu; 0-2% OH and viscosity 0À4- 2 sec. by ASTM-D-871 Formula B) are specified. Cobalt naphthenate and cyclohexanone hydroperoxide are optional siccatives.
|
