1,218,238. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. SEMPERIT OSTERREICHISCH AMERIKANISCHE GUMMIWERKE A.G. 19 Dec., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 60297/68. Heading B5K. [Also in Division B8] A cut strip 1 of self-adherent material, e.g. rubberized fabric, is sucked by a suction device 5 on to the underside of the lower run of a conveyer belt 4, longitudinally movable in a direction parallel to the cut edge of the strip 1, and is moved by the belt 4 so that a predetermined overlap remains relative to the next strip to which the first strip is to be joined and which is fed by a conveyer 2. As shown, the strips 1 are cut by a bar 3 from a web and fed intermittently by a conveyer 2 under the belt 4 which is perforated and parallel to the bar 3. The bar 3 and the belt 4 are inclined relative to the conveyer 2. After a strip 1 has been fed by the conveyer 2, the lower run of the belt 4 is pressed downwardly on to the strip 1 by rollers 7 actuated by pistons (not shown). The device 5 sucks the strip on to the stationary belt 4. The rollers 7 are lifted and the belt 4 is moved until the edge of the strip overlaps slightly the side edge of the next strip. The cycle is repeated. The overlapping edges are pressed together by a roller 8. |
