[Also in Divisions H3 and H4] In the arrangement for recording electrostatic images described in the parent Specification, the ion gun is modified by the addition of a grid electrode. The grid also may be included in the line gun and multiple gun described in the parent Specification. As shown, the gun includes a main electrode 40 and a plate electrode 42 having an orifice 58, an insulating sleeve 44 holding the electrodes in position and providing an ionization space between the electrodes. The paper or other dielectric is mounted on a conductive platen 66 and helium is fed via supply tube 54 and through slots 56 in the electrode 40 to the ionization space. The grid electrode 200 is supplied with a control signal from 202 and enables analogue or gray scale recordings to be made. It is also suggested that the ion gun may be used as an amplifier in a manner analagous to a conventional triode but without the requirement of a vacuum. |
