A compressor comprises equi-spaced radial cylinders 11, 12, (13), (14) each containing a piston 60 reciprocated by a crank-shaft 20, one end of the crank-shaft being in the form of a cylindrical male bearing portion 22 running in a bore provided in a housing wall 31 defining a chamber 92 supplied with lubricant. Lubricant is fed to the chamber 92 through a pressure reducing capillary tube 91 leading from the bottom of a chamber 84 pressurized by compressed gas discharged from the cylinders. Passages 95, 96, 97 in the crank-shaft 20 allow lubricant in the chamber 92 to reach the main bearing 16. The crank-shaft 20 is driven externally via a pulley 51 incorporating an electromagnetic clutch 50, 52, 54. Each pair of pistons 60 is attached to a Scotch yoke 25 or 26 in which is fitted a slide block 65 or 67 rotatable on the crank-pin 21. Gas enters the compressor through an inlet 44 and flows to the cylinders through valve controlled ports 74 in the pistons. The gas compressed in the cylinders passes out through ports in a valve plate 77 controlled by a valve 78 secured in position by a boss 87 on a cylinder head 81. After passage through ducts 82, 83 and the chamber 84 the compressed gas passes to an outlet 88. |
