1,114,787. Anaesthetizing apparatus. BIOTRONICS RESEARCH Inc. 25 Aug., 1965 [26 Aug., 1964; 23 March, 1965], No. 36547/65. Heading A5R. Apparatus used to anaesthetize a living body or part thereof, comprises a source 22 of high frequency oscillating electric current which is to be applied to the body through electrodes 26, the current being modulated in amplitude or frequency by electric signals picked-up from the body and conducted to an amplifier 12. As shown the body signals are obtained from electro-encephalograph electrodes 11; alternatively a source such as an electrocardiograph may be used. A phase shifter 24 with manual adjustment is also included in the circuit. As in Figure 2 (not shown), the apparatus may also comprise particular amplifiers and filters to reduce unwanted noise and may include monitoring oscilloscopes. In an alternative apparatus, Figure 3 (not shown), the signals received from the body are amplified and rectified and used to control the amount of current applied to the body from a high frequency oscillator. Frequencies of 10-50 k.c.p.s. are suggested for the oscillator output. A single set of electrodes may be employed instead of separate electrodes 11, 26. |
