An apparatus for transmitting the rotational movement of a pass adjusting screw 3 of a roll stand to a synchro comprises a shaft 7 concentrically secured to the screw and a synchro 6 whose input shaft 9 is concentrically connected to the shaft 7, preferably by means of a backlash free coupling 8. The shaft and the synchro are movable axially when the screw is rotated. The synchro 6 is mounted in a housing which is rigidly connected by a bracket 10 to a sleeve 12 in which the shaft 7 is housed in friction-free bearings 15. The sleeve is fixed against rotation by locking means 16 which comprises two U-shaped guides 25 arranged to surround the shaft with their inner faces urged by springs 30 against a pair of diametrical opposed flat parallel guide surfaces 17 on the sleeve 12. The surfaces of the guides which abut the sleeve are convex, Fig. 4 (not shown), so that when the pass width is adjusted by means of the screw the sleeve 12 with the synchro 6 mounted rigidly to it may move axially with the shaft 7 and tilt with it if the shaft is not mounted concentrically with the screw 3, but it cannot rotate relative to the roll stand. If a biasing motor is used in conjunction with the synchro the coupling between shafts 7 and 9 need not be backlash free. |
