Boron is recovered as boric oxide from the cake resulting from the filtration of an aqueous suspension obtained by the treatment of a borocalcic ore with an aqueous solution containing one or more alkali metal or ammonium carbonates and/or bicarbonates and/or hydroxides by washing the cake with an aqueous solution containing at least part of the alkali metal or ammonium compounds used in the treatment solution, the used washing solution being used in making up new treatment solution. The washing solution is preferably an aqueous solution of either sodium sesquicarbonate or an equimolecular mixture of ammonium carbonate and bicarbonate, the solution having an alkali metal or ammonium compound concentration of at least 0À2 N, preferably 0À5 N to 2 N. |
