1298873 Spray drying MORINAGA MILK INDUSTRY CO Ltd 30 Jan 1970 [28 March 1969[4467/70 Heading BIB Liquor such as concentrated milk is dried by spraying it from atomizer 104 into a tower 101 which is supplied through tangential conduit 105 with hot air which flows downwards through duct 106, a small proportion of cool air being admitted through conduit 108 and annular orifice 109 so that an annular film of cool air flows down the inner wall of duct 106 and surrounds the spray 103 whereby the deposition of fine powder in the upper part of the tower is almost avoided. The amounts of concentrated milk, hot air and cool air may be controlled by automatic valves (not shown) connected to pipe 102, and conduits 105 and 108, so that the relative velocity and temperature distributions down the tower may be regulated. The dried powder product is discharged from a port (not shown) a the lower end of the tower. In a modified apparatus (Fig. 5, not shown), the inner wall of the tower is also supplied with an annular stream of cool air. |
