1291499 Graft polymers STANDARD OIL CO 28 Nov 1969 [13 Feb 1969] 58213/69 Heading C3G A polymeric product is obtained by the polymerization in an aqueous medium of 100 parts by weight of a monomeric component consisting solely of (A) at least 70% by weight of acrylonitrile and (B) 0 to 30%, based on the combined weight of (A) and (B), of an ester having the structure wherein R 1 is hydrogen, a methyl group or halogen, and R 2 is a methyl or ethyl group, in the presence of 20 to 50 parts of (C) a rubbery polymer of butadiene or isoprene and, if desired, styrene, the rubbery polymer containing from 50 to 100% by weight of polymerized butadiene or isoprene and from 0 to 50% by weight of polymerized styrene. In the examples, an emulsion process is employed for the polymerization of acrylonitrile and methyl or ethyl acrylate in the presence of butadiene-styrene rubber. |
