[Also in Divisions A5 and C5] The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein X represents oxygen or two separate radicals, one of which is a hydrogen atom and the other is a group of the formula -O-CO-R, R being a straight or branched saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 1-6 carbon atoms or a straight or branched unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms. The esters of the above formula are obtained by esterification of the corresponding alcohol or by reacting 6,10-dimethyl-1,5,9- undecatriene with a mixture of mineral acid and organic acid of the formula RCOOH. The ketone of the above formula exists in cis and trans forms obtained in admixture by oxidation of the corresponding alcohol obtained in turn by hydrolysis of an ester. 6,10-Dimethyl-1,5,9-undecatriene employed in the preparation of the esters is obtained by reacting a geranyl halide with an allyl halide under Grignard reaction conditions. The products are employed in perfume compositions (see Division A5).</p> |
