A storage unit for drawings is equipped with a facility for extracting a drawing from the stack and for transporting it to a processing station i.e. a copying machine. The drawing may then be either extracted completely or replaced in the store. Drawings are hung on carriers that are supported on 'L' shaped guide bars. A control unit selects the particular drawing which is moved sideways to clear the rack. The drawing falls into the bottom half where it is transported by a belt drive to a processing station. After processing it is transported to a handling unit that raises the drawing to align with those in store. At this point either the drawing is ejected from the handling unit or is relocated in the storage unit.
