[Also in Division H1] Skirt 16 on the lid 2 of an electric battery is ultrasonically welded to shoulder 17 inside the battery case 1. Skirt 16 is longer than the height of the portion of the case above the shoulder so that before welding there is a gap between the flange at the edge of lid 2 and the rim of case 1. Welding is continued until the gap has closed and a head 19 has formed to make a tight seal between the case and the lid as shown in Fig. 5. As shown in Fig. 6 the sonotrode 20 supported on movable member 21 has a skirt 22 to weld lid 2 to case 1 and a lug 23 to weld lug 14 of guarantee plate 13 to lid 2 (see also Division H1). |
