A method of forming creases in corrugated board having an outer liner, an inner liner, and a corrugated reinforcing member therebetween comprises forming one substantially straight crease in the outer liner, and a substantially straight creased zone in the inner liner and corrugated member, the zone being parallel to the crease but relatively disposed as to provide a hinge which is asymmetric in crosssection, wherein the zone is of a width which allows inward deformation of the inner liner and corrugated member during bending or folding, without cracking or bulging. The creased zone may be formed of a primary and secondary crease disposed on laterally opposite sides of the outer liner crease with the primary crease of greater depth than the secondary (Fig. 12, not shown) by laterally offsetting the outer liner crease from the inner liner crease (Fig. 15, not shown), or by forming the laterally offset creases with shoulders of suitable shapes (Fig. 17, not shown). The creasing apparatus comprises co-operating die-wheels having shapes and arrangements suitable for the above formations (Figs. 8-11, 14, 16 and 17, not shown). The creases can be formed in the machine direction, e.g. across the corrugations, or parallel to the corrugations. |
