[Also in Division G1] A weighing and lifting apparatus comprises a load cell 76 which co-operates with a weigh platform 20 to produce on an indicator 80 an indication of the weight of a load supported on the platform, the platform being so mounted in a pit 12 on a tubular ram 46 which is movable under fluid pressure with a cylinder 42 that the height of the platform 20 with respect to the floor of the pit is adjustable by suitably adjusting the amount of hydraulic fluid within the cylinder 42. The load cell which may be pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical is connected to the weight indicator 80 by conduits 82, 84 and is supported, in one embodiment, on the bottom end wall 48 of the tubular ram 46 and arranged so as to be acted upon by the lower closed end 75 of a tubular member 70 which depends from and is fixed to the platform 20. A device 58 comprising pivotally interconnected rods 60, 62 prevents rotation of the platform 20 and stabilizing structures 24, 25 respectively comprising link members 92 and a ball bearing arrangement link the platform 20 to the ram 46 so that the load cell 76 does not sense horizontal forces but senses only vertical forces due to a load on the platform 20. The platform 20 comprises I-beams (66), (Fig. 3, not shown) on which are mounted horizontal rollers 56 for supporting the load, at least some of the rollers 56 being rotatably drivable. A conduit (38), (Fig. 1, not shown) connects the cylinder 42 with hydraulic fluid equipment at one side of the pit 12. In an alternative embodiment, the load cell, instead of being mounted below the depending member, is mounted at the top of the depending member (124), (Fig. 6, not shown) and immediately below a spacer assembly (140) and a plate (136) of the platform and is arranged to bear on a ram spider assembly (150) fixed to the ram (46), the stabilizing structure, corresponding to structure 24 of the previous embodiment, being a vertically flexible, horizontally rigid plate (166), (Fig. 5, not shown). |
