A low-foaming detergent composition comprises (a) non-ionic surfactant such as ethylene oxide adduct of higher primary and. secondary alcohols and higher alkyl phenols, preferably a mixture of ethylene oxide adduot of sec. alcohol having 15 C atoms, a mixture of ethylene oxide adducts of nonyl phenol and dinonyl phenol, or an ethylene oxide adduct of a primary alcohol having 12-20 carbon atoms, (b) a foam reducing agent which is a higher alkyl or dialkyl phosphate or a mixture thereof, each alkyl group contains 5-20-C atoms. Specified foam reducing compounds may be monomyristyl phosphate, monocetyl phosphate, or a mixture of mono and dimyristyl phosphate in the ratio of 1 : 1, and the preferred amount of these compounds in the detergent is preferably at least 1% (by weight). |
