PURPOSE:To adjust the brightness and chromaticity in the case of color mixture of each discharge cell in a color plasma display with comparatively simple means. CONSTITUTION:The number of times of discharge maintaining pulses to be applied is set variably at every discharge cell group emitting in the same luminous color in each picture element P in a panel 5. Therefore, a maintaining pulse application circuit (for example, horizontal electrode drivers 41, 42) separated at every discharge cell group emitting in the same luminous color is provided, and the number of times of discharge maintaining pulses can be controlled variably at every separated maintaining pulse application circuit.
