1310979 Electro-depositing nickel compounds in pores MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 24 July 1970 [25 July 1969] 36136/70 Heading C7B A Ni positive electrode for an alkaline Ni-Cd battery is made by infilling the holes of a porous sintered Ni plaque with a Ni compound e.g. 7 Ni (OH) 2 3 Ni (NO 3 ) 2 by cathodic deposition in an electrolyte containing Ni ions and NO 3 and/or NO 2 ions or Ni ions in an ammonium, ammoniate or amino complex, then immersing the plaque in hot water (at least 65‹C) for at least 20 minutes. The hot water may contain 0À01 mol NH 4 and 0À05 mol Ni ions and/ or a surface active agent e.g. polyoxyethylene-alklanyl ether, to convert the electrodeposited Ni compound and preferably part of the Ni plaque into active Ni (OH) 2 . The Ni plaque may comprise a core of Ni-plated steel or a net or punched sheet of Ni. The finished electrode of specific capacity at least 300 m Ah/cc may be spirally wound in the hermetically sealed battery. |
