[Also in Division C3] A photo-polymerizable mixture comprised at least one ethynyl quinol of the formula: where R is H, alkyl, aryl or acyl R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl, aryl, alkenyl or alkoxy - alkenyl R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 or H, alkyl or aryl or R 1 and R 2 or R 3 and R 4 together form a condensed aromatic ring, which may be substituted by NH 2 , NO 2 , OH, OR 6 or Cl (R 6 is alkyl), each alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and any other substance is an ethylenically unsaturated photo-polymerizable compound, binding agent, sensitizer, dyestuff, or polymerization inhibitor. The quinol act as both initiators and as monomers. In Examples the mixtures comprise such ethynyl quinol as 9-(W-methoxy-butenynyl)-2- chloro-anthra quinol-9, 1-butenyl-2-methyl-naphthoquinol-1, 9 -ethynyl -1 -nitro -anthraquinol -9 and 9-phenethynyl-anthraquinol-9, binders comprising polyinyl butyral, maleic anhydride/styrene copolymers, α-methyl styrene-vinyl toluene copolymers, polyvinyl acetate, polymethyl methacrylate, diallylisophthalate polymer, a polyglyol, polyamide, cellulose acetobutyrate, a cresol/ formaldehyde or a modified phenol/formaldehyde resin, further monomers comprising methylene glycol diacrylate, trimethylolpropane-triacrylate, and ethylene-bis-acrylamide, together with various solvents, and in some cases hydroquinone monoethyl ether. The mixtures may be coated on a support and subjected to conventional imagewise exposure and development to produce printing plates or printed circuits. |
