1,166,602. Feeding labels to workpieces. WILLIAM CARTER CO. 21 Sept., 1966 [27 Sept., 1965], No. 42089/66. Headings B8F and B8S] A label from a magazine L, Fig. 4, is carried to a position 44 for attachment to a flat workpiece by a carrier 160 which moves vertically through a circular arc greater than 90 degrees and returns by the same path. In the machine illustrated the label has a turned-over end engaged by the leading edge 162, Fig. 4a, of a carrier with suction holes 172. The carrier moves to a slot 140 in the bottom plate 139 of the magazine and is swung by a rack and pinion 154, 152 (Fig. 4) operated by a pneumatic ram 146. The label is attached by sewing. It is held by suction on a work receiving member 38. After the operator has placed a workpiece over the label, and the machine has started, a clamp, Fig. 4 (Fig. 7, not shown), holds the workpiece against the label and the work and label are moved together, by a member 44, in a square path under a sewing head which thus produces a square seam. The work is subsequently delivered by a pusher (199) (Fig. 1, not shown). |
