A cutting tool including a holder 10 and an insert 17 has a pocket for receiving the insert which comprises first, second, and third faces 11, 15 and 16 respectively, the second and third faces being inclined to each other and inclined towards the first face 11. The second and third faces are formed on a seating member 14 which is secured to the first face by brazing, soldering or an adhesive. The insert is provided with inclined faces which are complementary to the faces of the pocket, whereby when the insert is located in the pocket in use, the cutting forces produced urge the insert firmly into the pocket. The inserts may be of triangular or square configuration and are retained in the pocket by a pin which passes through a hole in the insert into a bore in the face 11 of the pocket, the hole and bore being misaligned and the retaining of the insert in the pocket is effected by the deformation of the head of the pin in the hole in the insert. Alternatively, the insert is retained by a conventional screw clamp 31, 32. |
