The subject of the invention is a process and filter for cleaning gases of dust-like particles, according to which process the gas is conducted through the filter material forming a filter bed 4. According to the invention, at least partially clear, unrotted peat, and having a degree of rotting H 1-4, is used as filter material, which effectively collects even small particles and can easily be regenerated.
