<p>The surface of submarine equipment e.g. for temp. salinity measurement etc., are protected against fouling by marine growth by continuous exposure to high energy radiation e.g. from a radioisotope source fitted in an absorbent container with a window, with a long term killing effect on any microorganism on those surfaces. The method is cheaper to operate than the use of heavy metal, e.g. Pb anti fouling paints which require regular renewal.</p> |
