1,211,045. Tentering apparatus. BEVIS INDUSTRIES Inc. 19 June, 1968 [16 April, 1968], No. 29205/68. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] Tentering clips strong enough to cope with the increased forces met in the processing of thermoplastic sheet material such as polyester, polyethylene or fluorocarbons have a horizontally disposed base 10 provided with a clamp surface 11, a vertical upstanding wall 12 and a horizontal platform 13 which overhangs 12 to form a rearward portion and a forward portion which overlies 11 and terminates in a pair of spaced apart arms 14 and 15. The base 10 has a central section 16 provided with a pair of upper ears 18 and 19 which project horizontally sidewise and a pair of lower ears 20, 21 which project parallel to 18 and 19. A jaw 25 with a projection 26 and clamping edge 27 is loosely hinged to a pintel 23 supported in the arms 14 and 15. The jaw 25 is normally free to move into position with edge 27 engaging the clamping surface 11 to provide a horizontal bite line. Axle pin bores in 18 and 19 are aligned with those in 20 and 21 respectively. A vertical plane passing through the bite line also passes through the axis of these bores. The clips may be pivotally connected into a chain by means of a shaft 40 passing through the axle pin bores of the ears 18, 20 of one clip and 19, 21 of the adjacent one. This arrangement prevents the scalloping or compressing of the material between adjacent clips which occurs when prior art clips travel in a curve. |
