1,143,244. Isomerizing paraffins. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP. 14 Sept., 1967 [27 Sept., 1966], No. 41931/67. Heading C5E. [Also in Division B1] Hydrocarbons, particularly C 4 -C 6 paraffins, e.g. n-hexane are isomerized with a chlorinated or brominated hydrocarbon activated Pt-Al 2 O s composite stabilized by the steps of (a) heating for at least 0À1 hour at 600-1200‹ F. in the presence of a non-reactive gas flowing through the composite at a flow rate of at least 300 S.C.F. per hour per square foot of reactor cross-section, (b) adjusting the temperature of the composite to 150-700‹ F. and (c) contacting the composite with HCl or HBr admitted at a dosage of at least 1 volume at 60‹ F. and 1 atmosphere over a period of at least 0.5 hour at 150-700‹ F. Examples describe the isomerization of (1) n-hexane to yield 2 : 2 dimethylbutane at 200-350‹ F., (2) naphtha and (3) n-butane to isobutene. n-Pentane is also a specified starting material, but no details of conversion are provided. |
