<p>Fabrication of welded sections, particularly for bridge construction, consisting of a flat metal plate with parallel channe-type profiles spaced at pre-determined intervals, automatically welded along the edges to the plate by the following steps: (a) a series of profiles, lying loosely on the plate in spaces approximately defining their correct positions, are transported under an automatic welding unit and a bridge construction unit the plate comes up against a stop member lying at a specific distance from that construction (b) the profile now situated below the bridge construction is lifted from the plate by a centering device and centred transversely and longitudinally relative to the bridge construction and is then pressed upwards until the latter is forced against the profile, (c) the profile is now welded to the plate which is then allowed to fall with the profile, a stop member then being taken outside the path of the plate which is then moved forward up to a stop member in its further path of motion through a distance corresponding to the interval between the profile just welded and the next succeeding profile to be welded.</p> |
