A high-dwell, high pressure, and low temperature method and apparatus for sealing heat sealable flexible containers. The flexible containers are sealed before moving out of a sterilizing chamber maintained at a sterilizing temperature of between about 212 DEG and 250 DEG F. Sealing bars are heated to a temperature of between about 250 DEG and 300 DEG F., and are clamped against the container at a pressure above 100 p.s.i., preferably about 250 p.s.i. for a period of between 2 to 6 seconds, preferably about 4 seconds.
