The plate groups (not shown) of the cells are interconnected by hole straps 4 having terminals 5 joined by a connector 6, these terminals and connector being sealed in an aperture 8 in the cover 3 and to a partition 2 by synthetic resin sealing compound 9. The battery is intended for operation between extreme temperatures, e.g. from -40‹ to + 90‹ C., and due to the different coefficients of thermal expansion of the cover 3 and the lead connector 6 and terminals 5 there is a tendency for cracking to occur between their interfaces. To overcome this defect perforated ring-shaped members 10 are moulded in the cover 3 around each of the apertures 8. The members 10 may be of hard lead, glass fibre or a rubber mixture containing powdered quartz, synthetic resin or powdered lead, and have a thermal expansion coefficient similar to that of the parts 5, 6. |
