The reed is carried on a pivotal support which also carries a number of parallel straight fingers. The fingers each pivotally support an inverted L-shaped arm which in the picking position are pushed by a stop to contact the fingers and form a closed channel and which in a beating position are spring biassed away from the fingers to open the channel. The weft is picked by air nozzles on the fingers to that it is enclosed within the channel, and as the pivotal support moves to beat the weft, the channel is opened allowing the weft to pass freely into the shed ready for beating. Sufficient compressed air can be supplied to correctly pick the weft without risk of the weft escaping from the shed.
|
