The principal patent describes revealing superficial faults in continuous castings by applying a calamine formation stopping enamel-like coating to the product as soon as possible, downstream of the ingot mould, the coating being broken in the area of faults. The improvement consists of treating the cast product with high press. water jets of pref. 200 effective atmos. at 400 l/min in a 2.1 min dia. jet striking the product at 80 m/sec, before applying the enamel-like coating.
