Principal patent describes revealing superficial faults in rolled products, partic metallic semic-products and rods in which an enamel-like coating which stops calamine formation is applied to the product as soon as possible downstream of a mechanical calamine removal pref. taking place in a rolling mill stand, the enamel-like coating breaking in the area of superficial faults in the product. The improvement consists of treating the rolled product with high pressure water jets before applying the enamel-like coating. Water is applied at >100, pref. 200 effective atmospheres at >200 l/min pref. 400 l/min in a 0.2-3mm, pref. 2.1 mm dia jet striking the product at 15-100 pref. 80 m/sec.
