Sintered absorbents prodn - by halogen treatment of sintered polymer powder for filter candles

Sinter absorbent article is produced by treating sintered polymer powder with halogens. Prod. can absorb liquids, esp., water. The halogens should be diluted with inert gas to prevent excessive temp. rise and the reaction is pref. carried out in the dark. Treatment is suitable for all thermoplastic filter candles, esp., of polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene and also halogenated polymers, esp., PVC.
