Hot waste gases from a group of coke ovens transfer heat to air and/or to heating gases for the ovens, in an external, structurally separate heat exchanger. In an illustrated embodiment, the exchanger comprises two separate chambers between which solid heat-transfer particles are circulated, the hot waste gases transversing one chamber, and the air or heating gases the other. Heat-insulated ducting connects the ovens with the exchanger and two exchangers, each of a capacity to operate with all the ovens in the group, may be used so that continuous working is possible in case of repair. |
