PURPOSE:To provide a read diagnostic system capable of being easily and independently retracting the default of the disk medium of its followers by a disk controller regardless of whether it is under on-line or not and without imposing a load to a host device. CONSTITUTION:By a diagnosis control timer 32 and a diagnosis controlling counter 33 in a controller 3, an input/output frequency in process (input/output operational number of times or connecting number of times with channel) participating in a command from the channel within a fixed time in the past is found, in accordance with this frequency, by the controller 3, the propriety of the read diagnosis of a disk device 6 and a read diagnostic object track number are decided independently, read diagnostic operation is independently executed in the spare time of input/output operation. Under read-diagnosing, when a starting demand is imparted from the channel, the diagnosis is finished and the starting demand is received. |
