To overcome tape-wear and speed variation produced by misalignment of cassette hubs with driving spindles, the hubs are journalled in precision bearings fixed to the cassette base and are dimensioned for a loose fit with the spindles. As shown, each hub 34 is fixed to the outer race 33 of a ball bearing 29 and has a radially inner portion 43 with teeth co-operating loosely with splines 41 on the spindle 27. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the hubs are attached to the inner ball races (31a). Tape guides 16 adjacent the front corners are flangeless but those (18, 19) adjacent the hubs are flanged to increase tolerance to misalignment.</p> |
