<p>Bearing material consists of (in wt.%) (i) 30 - 95% graphite powder contg. 20 - 30% phenol-HCHO binder (w.r.t. graphite wt.) and 3% additives, e.g. hexamethylene tetramine, stearic acid and Ca(OH)2, (ii) 5 - 40% phenol-aniline-HCHO resin and (iii) 0 - 60% powder of a ductile non-ferrous metal or alloy, and pref. 0.5 - 5% finely dispersed abrasive powder, esp. talcum or glass. Prod. used in liquid and coupled with a pig Fe pt. suitably contains 50% graphite (with 22% binder), 39% Pb powder, 10% phenol-aniline-HCHO resin and 1% talcum. Uses include gaskets of steam turbine feed pumps, bearings of water pumps in automobile, tractor and ship's engines, pump compressors and bearings for diesel engines.</p> |
