1453734 Abrasion tools SLIPMATERIALNAXOS AB 25 July 1974 [8 Aug 1973] 32924/74 Heading B3D [Also in Division C4] A polishing tool comprises a shaft 6, Fig. 3, and strips of abrasive cloth 12 fastened to the shaft, the abrasive cloth comprising a base fabric of the twill type having a weight of 150-300 g./m.<SP>2</SP> coated on one side with abrasive particles in a quantity of 5-50 cm.<SP>3</SP> abrasive per m.<SP>2</SP> abrasive cloth, the particles having a size less than 240P (i.e. a mediam 50% value of 59 Ám particle size according to the Federation of European Producers of Abrasive Products) and being attached to the fabric by a binder, 10- 100 cm.<SP>3</SP> of binder being applied per m.<SP>2</SP> of abrasive cloth. The fabric has weft threads 1 which pass under one warp thread and then over two warp threads, adjacent weft threads having the pattern displaced one warp thread so as to produce diagonal lines 3 about which the fabric is most easily bent. A strip of such fabric coated with abrasive on one surface, upon repeated contact with a workpiece, assumes the helical shape shown in Fig. 2. The strips may be secured to a hollow cylinder 6 by a helically wound wire 11. The cylinder is supported in bearing 8 and, at one end, is provided with a drive shaft 9 and, at the other, has a stationary pipe 10 for supplying water to the inside of the cylinder, the water passing through openings 7 to the strips. In another embodiment, a shaft 15 has secured thereon flap sheets 17,...20, the ends of the sheets being cut into strips. The abrasive may be aluminium oxide or silicon carbide and the binder may be phenol formaldehyde resin, epoxy resin or other binder. |
