The multiplication and the division of error position data is done by utilizing a complementary ROM and multipliers to decrease ROM capacity and division time. Positions of error are calculated using look-up table method. The error correction system comprises a first operating unit for obtaining error position polynomial by operating error position data, a second operating unit for calculating position of error using the error position polynomial and a look-up table, and operating order controller (400) for designating operating order of the first and the second operating units, and a zero detector (300) for detecting zero's of error position data.
