The walls for buildings etc. are constructed by securing a lower metallic bracket (2) to a foundation support. Vertical rods (4) having threaded upper ends are then attached to the bracket (2). Hollow wooden panels (16) are placed over the rods (4) into superimposed horizontal rows which form the inner and outer surfaces of the wall. An upper metallic bracket containing holes through which the rods (4) pass is then secured to the uppermost row of panels and the rods put under tension by nuts threaded onto the upper ends of the rods thereby securing the panels together.
