PURPOSE:To provide superior wear resistance by homogeneously dispersing precipitated carbides of a specific size and by regulating oxygen content and density to a specific value or below and a specific value of theoretical density or above, respectively, in a material composed principally of Fe and containing C and Cr. CONSTITUTION:A powdered Fe-C-Cr alloy consists of, by weight, 1-6% C, 5-45% Cr, and the balance Fe and has a grain size regulated to 1-100mu. This alloy power is thermally sprayed onto the base material by means of thermal spraying in a reduced-pressure atmosphere of 15-200torr. In this way, a wear- resistant ferrous material in which precipitated carbides of 0.1-5mu grain size are homogeneously dispersed and oxygen content and density are regulated to <=3,000ppm and >=97% of theoretical density, respectively, can be obtained.
