PURPOSE:To obtain a car engine testing apparatus with an acceleration detecting mechanism having reliability and reproducibility, in a structure having a rotary roller and a dynamometer, by detecting the rotational speed of the rotary roller. CONSTITUTION:When the engine of the car 1 placed on a stand 3 is driven, power is transmitted to a rotary roller 6 through rear wheels 1a and the dynamometer 7 mounted on the main shaft 6a of the roller 6 absorbs the rotation of said shaft 6a to measure power capacity. At the same time, the rotational speed of the rotary disc 11 fixed to the main shaft 6a is detected by a detection means 12. The detection value of said detection means 12 is outputted to a processor 15 as an electric signal through a conductor 13 and, for example, the angular displacement of the rotary disc 11 is timewise differentiated in the angular velocity operator of the processor 15 to calculate angular velocity which is, in turn, further timewise differentiated to operate angular acceleration. This angular acceleration is converted to acceleration (g) in the acceleration converting operation of the processor 15 and displayed on a display part 18 as the acceleration (g) at the predetermined speed of the car 1.
