PURPOSE:To obtain oxidation catalyst which has easily oxidizing ability at an ambient temp. or below and is useful for an air purifier, a harmful gas removing filter, etc., by oxidizing alloys containing gold and zirconium. CONSTITUTION:Alloys obtained by melting of gold and zirconium and as needed a required amount of titanium, vanadium, etc., in the inert gas, using such means as arc or induced heating, are oxidized at temperatures of about 0-300 deg.C in an oxidizing atmosphere containing air, purified oxygen, water, etc., preferably in an air flow containing water. Consequently, when carbon monoxide is oxidized, it is possible to oxidize it almost completely in a short time into harmless carbon dioxide, at normal temperature, pressure and in a gas phase. Further, this catalyst can be used for petroleum fan heaters, boilers, air purifiers, gas masks, harmful gas filters, etc. |
