The invention is an agent for the treatment of surfaces and surface layers of different materials, which comrpises as components a) polystyrol dissolved in a component b) of at least one alkoxysilane and/or a (partial) hydrolysis product and/or condensation product thereof, and if necessary as component c) a (silanol) polymerisation/condensation catalyst and possibly additives.
