Method of welding two components together to make a push rod, by forming a tapered annular seat on one component, forming a rose seat comprising radially extending tapered projections on the other component, bringing the two seats into coaxial abutment and projection welding the two components together. Pref., two components used in the mfr. of the push rod are a pipe, which has the annular seat, and a tip which has the seat on the concave or convex underside surface. The tip is made harder than the pipe by hardening the rose seat. A protrusion is formed in the centre of the rose seat.
