An improved adhesive polymer of; (a) 1-50 pts. by wt. of at least one monovinylidene aromatic monomer (b) 50-99 pts. by wt. of at least one conjugated diene monomer on the basis of 100 wt. pts. of (a) and (b), characterised by polymersing therein based on total wt. of adhesive polymer. (c) 0.5-5% by wt. itaconic acid. (d) 1.5-17% by wt. (4-7% by wt. most preferred) of at least one hydroxy -alkyl (meth)acrylate of formula (I) H2C=C-R6-C(O)O-R7-OH where R6=-H or methyl radical R7=1-10C straight or branched chain hydrocarbon radical. (i) The hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate is hydroxy-ethyl acrylate (HEA) (ii) The polymer comprises (a) 10-50 pts. by wt. styrene (b) 50-90 pts. by wt. butadiene (c) 1-3% by wt. itaconic acid (iii) The polymer is blended with a tackifier (e.g. polyterpene resins).
