PRODUCTION OF METAL CARRIER FOR CATALYST FOR PURIFICATION OF EXHAUST GAS

PURPOSE:To easily produce a racetrack-shaped honeycomb metal carrier free from partial distortion and a gap in the honeycomb structure. CONSTITUTION:Flat heat resistant metallic foil 1 is superposed on corrugated heat resistant metallic foil 2 and they are wound around a core metal 20 whose cross-sectional shape is practically elliptical while applying slight tension. The core metal 20 is then pulled out and the resulting wound body is made flat by pressing from the top and bottom to produce a racetrack-shaped honeycomb carrier as a metal carrier for a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas. Since the central part of the core metal 20 also has convexity, the metallic foils 1, 2 do not rise and a gap is not formed. Even by pressing from the top and bottom, the honeycomb structure is not distorted and the small holes 27 are retained.
